AlliConnect wants to use FA blogs!!!!

link
It's not bad enough that WW is co-opting FA language to push their diets, now Alli wants to use us to promote self acceptance and a healthier you? Excuse me, assholes, we're doing that just fine right now. We don't need the help of a take-this-shit-your-pants-and-get-magically-thinner POS drug to do that.
If low-fat diets worked for permanent weight loss, every person who has tried one would be permanently thin. And I'm sorry, asshats, you couldn't pay me enough money to take your POS Alli. I have enough problems with oily hair and skin without taking a drug that's going to make me shit my pants, have oil exuding through my pores, give me hideously reeking gas, and make me smell like shit no matter how many times a day I bathe. It would be nice to be thin, I'll admit it. Fewer problems finding clothes to fit, no more being mooed at when walking, no more name-calling and fat-bashing and fat discrimination. But the side effects of your drug just aren't the price I'm willing to pay (and have to pay money to you for the "privilege" of having them? I don't think so).
I'm not willing to pay the price of any side effects of any diet in order to take advantage of thin privilege, thank you very much. I'll continue to love and accept myself as I am. I happen to think I'm a pretty fucking awesome person just the way I am (and so does my husband, and my friends, and family).
So, Alli - fuck you very much, FA doesn't need/want your help promoting self-acceptance/health (with allis like you, who needs enemas?). Kthnxbai.

  1. "with allis like you who needs enemas"

    HA! That's awesome.

  2. I'm pretty sure "use" here means "use as an example."

I left them a comment saying they should start with Eve's post, but the comments are moderated so I doubt it'll get through.

  3. I couldn't resist (sick sense of humor does me in every time......lol).

  4. FJ - it probably does, but I'm just cynical enough to see it as another WW-type attempt to co-opt FA for their own ends, which don't promote FA and health as far as I can see.

  5. I left a comment, too, but doubt it will be approved. I'm sure Alli wouldn't want any subversive sane people derailing their dieting message.

  6. rachel - I didn't leave a comment, I was just so pissed off that they think FA would be willing to line up with them as far as weight loss and health/self-acceptance are concerned. I just don't like that they equate weight loss with health and self-acceptance (especially with a drug that has such nasty side effects).

  7. I recently saw a fat blog post that said "With Allis like that, who needs enemies" and all I could think was "Don't you mean enemas?" Vesta, it's creepy sometimes how much we can think alike lol.

Someone should point him to the T.H.I.N. post about how only thin people have the privilege of riding elevators, heh.

What really pisses me off...fuckers keep co-opting fat acceptance FOR THE PURPOSE of fat-hatred. Keep your grubby lies off our fucking movement, assholes.

  8. Annie - that was how Pat and I knew we were destined to be best friends....lol....she kept telling me to get out of her head (and I told her the same).
Yeah, co-opting FA for fat hatred tells me that we're making inroads and they're starting to worry. I don't think they're scared yet, but if we can get enough fat people to accept themselves and quit dieting, it's going to hit their bottom line and then watch out! The lies about obesity are really going to fly fast and furious (not that they don't already, but it could get worse).

  9. Ok I left a response too: "Why would you be attempting to "use" our blogs in the first place, in order to promote something we are almost universally against? We don't want to be "used" by the diet industry.

And let's get one thing perfectly clear - fat acceptance IS about health. Thin people do not corner the market on health. Fat acceptance encourages people to eat healthy, exercise, become fit, and to accept themselves (as you'll note, recent studies demonstrate that people who *think* they are too fat and want to lose weight are sicker than those who accept themselves the way they are.) Don't forget, underweight people were 74% more likely to die of heart attack than overweight people, either. In fact they were more likely to die, period.

So stop saying losing weight means getting healthy. Stop trying to co-opt the fat acceptance movement. Stop trying to use us. If you must market your dangerous product, leave us out of it entirely."

  10. Annie - You go girl! You said it better than I could have, that's for sure.

  11. Ok, I posted a comment too, and I'll bet that none of the comments any of us have posted will show up.

  12. I posted over there, and I'm sure it won't get through, but here's what it said:

"How can we use them to promote both self-acceptance and being the healthier you? "

Actually, they're already doing that: it's called Health At Every Size (HAES), and the idea of "Every Size" flat-out precludes the idea that you must lose weight in order to be healthier.

Just thought I'd point out that flaw in the logic, there.

  13. marste - big flaw in their logic, that's for sure.

  14. Holy buckets, that is some insane shit right there. I clicked around a little bit, because I needed a good laugh this afternoon. There was actually a post that said something about how "the first two bites are the best anyway, and who needs more than that?" Wow, so crazy!

I'm intrigued that part of GSK's marketing strategy is creating a "community" - smells like they're trying to recreate some of WW's, er, stellar "success" rates.

I just have to laugh; as warm-and-fuzzy as they might want to make this seem...in my mind, paying to be miserable and tortured has nothing to do with health OR self acceptance (fat or otherwise).

  15. Tari - Exactly. I was looking at some of the comments on the "treatment effects" and how the comments are mainly about how they're losing weight without those nasty effects. They all must have their gallbladders and have cut out most of the fat in their diets. I also saw where that 'effect' supposedly doesn't happen until 12 hours after you've eaten a meal with too much fat in it. Yeah, right. I don't have my gallbladder anymore (not for 20 years now) and if I eat a meal with too much fat, I have that 'effect' within an hour or two of eating. They will never convince me that Alli is a good thing (Martha Stewart they aren't).

  16. THEY POSTED OUR COMMENTS!!!!!

    Wooohooo!!!!!

  17. Well, well, well. fatsuperman doesn't want them using us either. Did you know we don't acknowledge that fat is unhealthy at all? And we regularly trot out cherry-picked studies to prove this? We also won't condemn any food as bad or to be consumed in moderation (we advocate intuitive eating which means we can eat whatever we want whenever we want). He goes on to say that we aren't promoting self-acceptance, we're promoting obesity as an ideal and ignoring science.
fatsuperman really needs to get a clue by four up side his head. He either hasn't read FA blogs, or if he has read them, he doesn't understand what he's read. He says they should read our blogs carefully before promoting us. Ummm, dude, they don't want to promote us, they want to co-opt us to promote their POS drug so they can keep brainwashing people into thinking that the only way to be healthy is to shit themselves into thinness. Sorry, we know better than that, we're smarter than that.

  18. It's bad enough Alli uses plus-size models in its ad campaigns. Now this?

  19. Well once again, I could just not wrap my head around the sheer insanity, that would lead a diet pill company to think they'd get away with co-opting Fat Acceptance blogs.

So I went to the site and, it's true. They really are so pathetically stupid to belive that they can use Fat Acceptance blogs to peddle their diet drugs.

I wrote them a long rant under the article about their suggestion that they partner up with Fat Acceptance websites, cause they belive in self-esteem too. *cough* I mean self-esteem that involves them making money. *cough*

There are other Fat Acceptance people who also have ranted about the issue at the Alli Connect site. I really shouldn't be surprised to the level of utter stupidity that fat haters will lower themselves to anymore. Yet, at times like this, I can't belive a company could be that freaking stupid.

  20. Vesta, I genuinely think this one deserves a LOT of attention. This is abominable, inexcusable. No WAY are they going to fucking use us. Oh, HELL no.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Annie - the thing is, they can want to use us all they want, but those of us who don't believe in dieting for weight loss will not go along with it. They would have a hell of a hard time finding anything on most FA blogs that come anywhere close to promoting the use of Alli (they might find a lot of us that are saying OH HELL NO though). Alli Poopy Pants, anyone? I didn't think so.

  22. My God, even people who *believe* in weight loss dieting know Alli is a load of shit. Even if it didn't have the horrendous side effects, the weight loss differential between using it and not using it is quite negligible! It amounted to something like 3 pounds per year! Wtf? I remember somewhere in the vicinity of 15 years ago they came out with carb blockers - I thought - yay! I can keep eating my pasta and lose weight? Great! Then they find out that carb blockers were a Bad Thing. There are three ways to take in a calorie - a carb, a fat, and a protein. Each are necessary. Why the hell would blocking any of them be a good thing? Not to mention that the nutrient loss with blocking fat can cause blindness and all manner of other ills - even if it didn't cause stench and anal leakage. Fat blockers were found to be bad YEARS ago (did you notice that those "Wow" chips went off the market mighty fast when people were leaking out their asses? Duh.) and now they're over the COUNTER? Good God, people have gone absolutely mad with this obesity hysteria. We need another Great Relearning. Just as the hippies of the 60s stopped bathing and started getting diseases that were so old they didn't even have Latin names (scabies, the creepy-crawlies, etc.) we need a Great Relearning with regard to fat. And we're just the people to make it happen. We mustn't lose our determination. We are more necessary than I ever imagined. Let's use all this shit to keep energized and keep fighting. (At least until we all die from choking on our fat that is lol.)
