The lies - 1 thru 9 and what can happen when we believe them

link
I've been following this progression of lies for the last several days, and it is a powerful presentation. I don't know if there will be more "What can happen when we believe the lie" and I don't know if I can take it if there are. I watched the last two videos and wanted to cry for every one of those girls and women. I don't know if they are looking for control, or perfection, or approval or all of those. All I know is that starving oneself is not an answer I want to see anyone using.
For me, this is the other side of the fat acceptance movement. If fat acceptance can eradicate the shame of body differences, maybe, just maybe, more girls and women will be able to see that they are all beautiful, each in her own special way. Maybe girls and women will be able to know that they don't have to meet some impossible, perfect ideal, that it's our imperfections that make us who we are, and that we are lovable in spite of and because of those imperfections.

  1. Vesta, thank you for sharing that.

I followed the link and watched every single one of those videos. (I'm so glad my girls have gone to bed; I don't think I'd want them seeing those.)

I think you're right. I think if we make it acceptable to be different sizes - no matter what those sizes are - there will be a drastic reduction in the amount of women and girls (and even men and boys, albeit to a smaller extent) that think they have to starve themselves to be some "ideal." Because whatever they will be will BE ideal.

  2. Hi,
I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for posting this link to my site. I desperately want to contribute to stopping the hate of & misconceptions about fat people. I believe a fear of becoming fat drives women & girls to torture themselves with unhealthy behaviors. It is a complicated issue. Until I started studying & reviewing these videos, I didn't realize how sick I had become as a young woman. It has been difficult to revisit. The good news is I'm alive, fat, & happier than I've ever been in my life. I need to get healthier because a trip to the mailbox makes me tired:( But I can honestly say that thanks to the fat acceptance movement & supportive blogs like yours, I NEVER EVER want to be skinny again! Thanks again, Belle of the Blog at http://www.aboutbeautyblog.blogspot.com/

  3. Belle, I think this series of yours is soooooo important, I wish every eating disordered woman in the world could see it and know in their heart of hearts that they are okay the way nature made them, that they don't have to change one single thing about themselves in order to love and be loved.
