Swimsuit review: Junonia

I ordered a new swimsuit from Junonia, and being the first time I ordered from them, I ordered a 4X. It fit fine everywhere except the bust (it squished the rack of doom something awful). So I called to return it and make sure it was available in a 6X in the color I wanted (turquoise, this one). Well, they only had the turquoise one in black in a 6X, so I ended up ordering this one instead. It was $20 more, and I had to pay return shipping on the one I returned to exchange, but it was so worth it.
I returned the turquoise one last week, and the black and hot pink one came today. I can tell you right now that I'll never order another swimsuit from anyone else ever again. When it comes to swimsuits, Junonia has all of my business forever, or as long as they're making swimsuits in my size. This is the first time I've ever had a swimsuit that the bra part of it actually fit the rack of doom and gave it support. The suit is easy to get in and out of, and it actually looks pretty good on me (I think I look good in it, which is saying something for me, I don't usually think that about swimsuits). The only thing that could be improved is that it's just a bit long in the torso for me, but I'm willing to deal with that for the way the rest of the suit fits so well.
I hated to spend that amount of money on a swimsuit, but now that I have the suit and have tried it on and compared it to every other less expensive swimsuit I've ever owned, it's well worth the $109.95 plus shipping that I paid for it (DH thinks so too, he likes the way I look in it).
If you're looking for a swimsuit, and have a rack of doom and are fat to boot, Junonia is the place to go. I can't recommend them enough (and no, I'm not getting anything from them for saying this).

  1. I always look at their swimsuits, but back away due to the price. I don't really mind spending the money for a good suit though, so maybe I'll take another look at them.

The past few summers I've been wearing a dark jog bra and just some random swim bottoms, but for when people are over, I really need a better top.

    Thanks for the review!

  2. Cute suit! I like the piping on the black and pink one...it makes it look so sporty! Rack of doom supported in a swim suit? GET OUT! Im so used to adjusting the mamas incessantly...can't believe there's one out there that keeps them in place. Let us know how it wears while swimming ok? Those prices piss me off a little, but it's not like you buy swimsuits all the time anyway. :)

I have been avoiding one piece suits for many years now. I like the two piece tankinis that cover my ample stomach apron...though not very well. Add to that the difficulty pulling up a wet swimsuit after using the bathroom....serious back issues in play here. Plus the struggle...oh my god! It's so much easier to just pull the bottom up. I like the swim dress style as it is less clingy to my stomach, but they only come in a one piece style.

Anyway....congrats on the awesome find! Hope you enjoy swimming in your new suit!

  3. I'll be wearing it this weekend since we're going down to see my son and his wife (and we'll be swimming at the motel, as usual). So I should know how it goes taking it off when wet and putting it back on again. I'll post an update when we get back.
I have one of the swimdress suits and I really don't like it much at all. It fits everywhere but the rack of doom (cups are too small and no support at all, very loose around the bottom of the shelf bra band where the elastic is), and when it's wet, the dress part stretches so much that it no longer hits at my hips but hits me almost at my knees (and there is no way to wring enough water out of the dress part of it to keep from dripping water everywhere when you're on your way from the pool to your room). The other thing I didn't like about it was the fact that even though I rinsed it out after every time I wore it, and I only wore it about 10 or 12 times over the span of a year, it faded all to hell and the fabric started to wear out/bubble/stretch in spots (I think maybe it wasn't meant to be worn in chlorinated pools, was more for the beach).
But all is not lost with that old suit. I'm recycling it - going to use the best parts of it as test fabric to see if my bra pattern works. If it does, and the spandex fabric makes a comfortable bra, I'll be making my own bras and not have to worry about finding ones to fit anymore (good thing spandex fabric is easy to find and comes in lots of colors and prints, I'll be able to have one-of-a-kind bras that I like, that fit, and that are comfortable - what a concept!).

  4. Well, I wore the Junonia suit swimming this weekend, and I have to say that I'm damned glad I bought it. It fits great, even when wet, and wasn't that hard to take off and on while wet either. It also dries really quickly, which is a plus when you're packing to go home early the next morning after swimming the afternoon before.
All in all, very much worth the money.
